Handwriting/Printing Workbook for Kids (Kindergarten, First Grade, Second Grade, Lower elementary level children)
Details:
This 100-page workbook provides engaging and fun practice in a number of handwriting skills:
-upper and lowercase letter formation (each uppercase letter and each lowercase letter have their own dedicated page for ample practice)
-numbers 1-10 formation
-simple words and short passage writing practice
-copywork pages
-simple grammar appropriate for the lower elementary years (capitalizing the first letter of a sentence and using ending punctuation)
Practice pages are presented in a fun and engaging way to keep kids motivated along the way. Kid-friendly jokes, silly sentences, animal facts, and many more features will keep them moving through the book as they practice letters, numbers, words, and sentences- building their writing stamina as they complete the pages.
This workbook was designed with great intention and attention to detail- always with the early elementary aged child in mind. It is not your average printing workbook with only a simple page for practicing each letter. You have seen those workbooks with the style page with just the letters "Aa", an image of an alligator, and then a bunch of lines where the child is expected to know how many letter As to write, left to determine the spacing of those letters, etc. This workbook is NOT like those other workbooks. Each page has dots above each line to guide the child where to construct each letter and an extra traceable letter halfway through each line to remind them along the way what the letter is supposed to look like. Letters are grouped together according to the types of lines needed to construct them- a research backed approach to letter instruction. Uppercase and lowercase letters are separate as capital letters are often taught and mastered first and because they are often constructed in ways completely different from each other (consider uppercase "A" and lowercase "a"- two different sets of lines are needed to construct those letters).
In summation, this handwriting workbook is fun, engaging, light, and playful while also providing lots of rich practice opportunities in the essential skill of handwriting.
There are also features built in to offer a bit of a handwriting break such as coloring and drawing elements and two activities towards the end of the book with interesting and novel ways to practice letters. Finally, there is a certificate of completion at the end of the book to celebrate your learner’s progress!
Full description:
This handwriting booklet is intended for any child in need of letter and number formation practice. Letters are presented in 3 groups based on the types of lines they have in common: straight line letters, curved line letters, and diagonal line letters. Developmentally, children are typically able to first draw straight lines, both vertical and horizontal. Children are later able to construct circles (curved lines) and finally, diagonal lines. The order of the letters in this book is based on this developmental progression. Uppercase letters are covered first and lowercase letters are covered second. Each letter has its own dedicated practice page with occasional reviews pages cowering several letters at once. Numbers one through ten are covered in sequential, numerical order.
Besides individual letter and number practice, this book also provides practice in writing simple words and short passages. There are pages that show proper spacing between letters within words and between words within a sentence. Short copywork-style passages offer letter and word practice in context. For the copywork pages, the child need not write the entire passage in one day. Please feel free to divide up the passages as needed. The idea is to have fun with the jokes, animal facts, and silly sentences!
This book also offers practice in simple grammar appropriate for the lower elementary years- capitalizing the first letter of a sentence and using ending punctuation. “Fix the Sentence” pages ask the child to find and correct grammatical errors within sentences. Again, these “errors” are limited to capitalizing the first letter of the sentence and adding appropriate ending punctuation. Several pages contain reminders pertaining to these two grammar rules.
On each page where a child is expected to write, there is a simple set of instructions in the lower left-hand corner of the page marked by a pencil icon. Please read the instructions to your child, if needed.
Additionally, there are features built in to offer a bit of a handwriting break such as coloring and drawing elements and two activities towards the end of the book with interesting and novel ways to practice letters. Finally, there is a certificate of completion at the end of the book to celebrate your learner’s progress!
Please note: This workbook does not provide instruction on individual letter formation (for example, which line to construct first and in which direction the writing utensil should move). Generally speaking, we form letters from top to bottom; construct the longest line(s) in a letter first and then follow with shorter lines (such as the long vertical line in the letter E first, followed by the three shorter horizontal lines); and have to lift up our writing utensil off the paper at least once to form most letters rather than retracing a previously drawn line. Please refer to the instructional method your child is being taught in school or seek out resources on your own for individual letter formation methods. (There are ample instructional videos on YouTube, for example.)
