Thomas Kuhn's Life
Thomas Kuhn was born July 18, 1922, in Cincinnati, Ohio. His parents were Samuel L. Kuhn and Minette Stroock Kuhn. His father was an industrial engineer, and his mother was a graduate of Vassar College. Thus, he grew up in a well-educated family, and the importance of learning was instilled in him at a young age. It wasn't until he graduated high school that he realized his deep love for physics. He went to Harvard and graduated with a bachelor's degree in physics in 1943. He continued at Harvard and received his master's and doctorate degrees. For his PhD., he switched from formally studying physics to studying the history and philosophy of science.

After graduating, Kuhn stayed at Harvard as a professor until 1956, teaching history and philosophy of science. He later taught at Berkeley, Princeton, and MIT, retiring from MIT in 1991.

Kuhn married Kathryn Muhs in 1948, and the couple had 3 children - 2 daughters and 1 son. They divorced in 1978, and 3 years later, Kuhn married Jehane Barton Burns. On June 17, 1996, Thomas Kuhn died of cancer in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
