Finding the Names — Installment 87 (Roll 11, 1846) — FREE
Installment 87 of Finding the Names continues Roll 11 — New Orleans Inward Manifests, 1846–1847 (National Archives Microfilm Publication M1895, Roll 11, NAID 173892418), images 241–360: 546 people on 60 manifests, transcribed name by name from the original records at the National Archives. The project now stands at 56,268 entries.
Inside: the barque Bachelor filed as three different ships in five days — Bachelor, Bacheller, Bachelar — carrying 104 people under one master, Hiram Horton, whom a Petersburg clerk garbled into "Niram Norton." On the brig John A. Lancaster, seven numbered lines stand blank, and her officer certified "the Number Complete although there is Seven not Named on it." A second Parthian's permission leaves room for only three of four folded children — printed unresolved, because the papers cannot say which three. Ann's two children on the schooner Eufala are counted here, because the inspector who examined them counted "the four Slaves." Stephen Turner is 30 on his manifest and "apparently about Forty years Old" to the man who examined him. Both ages stand.
This download contains the full book (PDF, 185 pages, large print) AND the complete name list for this installment as a spreadsheet (CSV) — every name as written, with ship, date, age, height, and the manifest image number, so any entry can be checked against the original scan.

Every name is transcribed by hand from the National Archives' own scans of the original manifests. Where a manifest and its certificate disagree, we print both. Nothing is guessed, and nobody is left out.
