Length: 3-5 hours. Some components of the module are best done as individual study or homework.

Description: The module explores five topics relating to fear, using authentic videos and texts to introduce research from fields including robotics, psychology and animal behaviour, plus an iconic text from the turbulent New York of the 1970s. Learners have the opportunity to discuss each topic in turn, and the worksheets provide more extensive activities focusing especially on vocabulary, listening and reading skills. A final sheet presents a selection of engaging and unusual tasks relating to the themes covered in the module.

Target language: Describing a graph; describing fears; talking about psychological and social characteristics of humans; group nouns for animals; writing a list of dos and don'ts; lexis relating to advertising.
