In the game of chess, pawns are known for having the potential to become any piece aside from itself and the king once it reaches the other end. Contrary to the title, the image shows an irony with the two pawns indicated to be dead while the other one is under the threat of becoming one. Taking the context outside chess, the pawns might refer to the youth, making the message deeper and darker as it calls out the damages and tragedies dealt to the youth in war while the unusually varied colors suggests the many teams in war, no one is guaranteed to be allies, only enemies.
