-----------------------

"This is an excellent historical fiction book! With great character development, a strong brother-sister bond, delightful twists and turns, and a beautiful message of redemption, this book is definitely on my favorites list. I can tell the author did a lot of research and is very passionate about the time period and themes.

Amy Ullrich did an excellent job of writing a gripping adventure story with deep themes in a family-friendly way. I was glad to find another historical fiction book that isn’t focused on romance and is well-written with a strong Christian message naturally woven into the story.” ~ Savannah Jane McCrary, Author of The Fire and the Trial

"I liked this one even more than the last! The story flows at a wonderful pace." ~ Tina B., Editor

Among the outcast

Amy has given us greater insight into the characters so well portrayed in
"Among the great", the forerunner of "Among the outcast".
Characters although set in a different timeframe display the attributes which
are with us in humanity today. Forgiveness, reconciliation, guilt courage and love are
all exemplified in the historical novel which develops the characters we have come to know and love in the first novel of the series. An engaging read for teens to grandads.

Exciting squeal (contains spoilers)

Among the Outcast is the exciting sequel to Among the Great (in fact, I think I enjoyed it even more), a series set during the reign of Alfred the Great. Though most of the characters are fictional, it's set around historical events, from the points of view of a pair of siblings as they find their place in a rapidly-changing world.

Outcast follows Edwin, trying to escape his past treason, and his sister Edith as she learns to serve the people under her care, while outside enemies threaten the newfound peace of the kingdom.

I enjoyed following Edwin's journey towards forgiveness. Though his particular arc is very familiar in Christian fiction, the story around it is unique.

I also enjoyed Edith's side of the story, the friends she surrounds herself with by her kindness and serving heart, her strength while not knowing where her brother was, and courage when danger threatened her home.

I am definitely looking forward to future stories about these characters!
