Kostenki 14, also known as the Markina Gora individual, is a significant Cro-Magnon specimen associated with the Gravettian culture. Discovered in 1954 at the Kostenki archaeological complex in Voronezh Oblast, Russia, Kostenki 14 provides critical insights into the genetic and cultural history of Upper Paleolithic Europe. He lived approximately 37,000 years ago, a period when modern humans were expanding across Europe and interacting with Neanderthals and Denisovans. He himself was partially neanderthal, although the majority of his ancestry was homo sapien.
