Teach Us To Pray
Most of us were told to pray. Very few of us were ever taught.
The disciples watched Jesus heal the sick, silence men who had studied their whole lives, and walk on water. They asked Him to teach them one thing.
Lord, teach us to pray.
This is twenty-one days of learning how. Not a devotional you read and feel something about — a guide that hands you an assignment every day and expects you to do it.
What's inside
Part One is the message this came out of: a look at the compromise and spiritual apathy in the church, and a call home for four kinds of people — the one watching from the couch, the one who's fallen further than anyone knows, the one who says he doesn't need a church, and the one who's been faking it for years.
Part Two is the twenty-one days, three weeks of seven:
- Week One — Coming Home. Who you're actually talking to. Telling God the truth. Learning to be still. Praying on the days you feel nothing.
- Week Two — Learning the Ground. The pattern Jesus gave, worked line by line. How to pray the Scriptures. Praying for your house by name. Praying out loud with another person.
- Week Three — Standing in the Gap. Interceding for the wanderer, the church, and the place you live. Persistence. Asking for rain.
Every day gives you a passage, a short teaching, one practice, and a written prayer for when you don't know how to start.
Ten minutes a day. Not an hour. Start with thirty and you'll quit by Friday.
You don't clean yourself up and then come to God. You come, and He does the cleaning.
