Building Blocks

A super simple cloth made up of knits and purls to practice your newly learned skills.

Suggested yarn: Cascade Yarns ® Ultra Pima
Yarn weight: DK (11 wpi)
Gauge: 22 stitches and 30 rows = 4 inches in block pattern, blocked
Needle size: US 6 - 4.0 mm
Yardage: 50 - 60 yards (46 - 55 m)
Size: approx 6 1/2" square

• The yarn, needle, gauge and size noted are what I used for my use whatever yarn and whatever needles you like, but your yarn usage will most likely differ from mine, so just take that into consideration. The most important thing is that you like the fabric of the cloth you’re making.

• Blocking always makes stitches look nicer. Simply soak the cloth in cool water, then gently squeeze the excess water out (never wring!), roll it into a towel and press hard (I stand on it) to really get out the excess, then lay it out and massage the stitches so that your boxes and rows look neat and tidy, and let dry. That’s all blocking is and it makes a world of difference in the look of your finished object.
