Estudio Nº 11: Distratta

🇺🇸 A hypnotic study on the basso ostinato and the slow dance.

Composed in the coastal town of Choroní in March 2006, this work represents a nod to Italian culture within the Fifteen Venezuelan Studies method. Titled Distratta (Distracted), the piece evokes the nostalgia of Neapolitan songs and the composer's memories of his youth in Rome with Maestro Darío González, while also paying tribute to the memory of Domenico Orioli.

Musically, this study differs from the previous ones by exploring a structure based on a basso ostinato. Its fundamental rhythm (a half note followed by two quarter notes) suggests the slow and amorous cadence of a bolero or an ancient pavane.

For the student, the main challenge is to maintain the solidity of this continuous bass while managing the expressive independence of the upper voices, creating a captivating and circular atmosphere.

🇪🇸 Un estudio hipnótico sobre el bajo ostinato y la danza lenta.

Compuesto en el pueblo costero de Choroní en marzo de 2006, esta obra representa un guiño a la cultura italiana dentro del método Quince Estudios Venezolanos. Bajo el título Distratta (Distraída), la pieza evoca la nostalgia de la canción napolitana y los recuerdos de juventud del compositor en Roma junto al Maestro Darío González, rindiendo también homenaje a la memoria de Domenico Orioli.

Musicalmente, este estudio se diferencia de los anteriores al explorar una estructura basada en un bajo ostinato. Su ritmo fundamental (una blanca seguida de dos negras) sugiere la cadencia lenta y amorosa de un bolero o una pavana antigua.

Para el estudiante, el reto principal consiste en sostener la solidez de este bajo continuo mientras maneja la independencia expresiva de las voces superiores, creando una atmósfera envolvente y circular.
