Mariners Compass that has both 16 points and 32 points!

Lessa Siegele’s amazing design skills have again come to the fore! The renowned Australian tutor and patchwork quilt designer has released her pattern for the Mariners Compass that has both 16 points and 32 points!  And includes 3 outer ring options for a truly unique look.

The central compass measures 28” and also included is a 13 1/2” version which can be used as corner stones in a border or as a cushion pillow or placemat.

It's finished size of the central medallion is 28” plus inner circle plus borders, making this a versatile pattern for both bed and knee rugs.

It is a foundation pieced 16 or 32  point star, with patterns for different options.

Unlike her counterpart pattern, (Not a Mariners Compass), this mariners compass has points for a true NSE & W.

2 versions of Flying Geese or Points outer rings included

There are 3 optional patterns for different outer circles, two different Flying Geese and a Points border. See photos. It is necessary to make 8 of these units to complete a circle.

For a bed size quilt the 13 1/2” small compass can be sewn together and appliqued to the background in the corner or around the larger compass.

Easy Foundation piecing using the patterns supplied give an accurate method to achieve those fine points as the work is stabilised during sewing.

There are many ways to do foundation piecing, the method Lessa prefers is included with the pattern but you are happy to use different method.

The pattern for the pieced centre star is included as a design colouring page, so you can get the desired look just right!

The flying geese border and the pieced centre star could be used in the pattern with many divisions or a plain background circle could be used in either quilt without a star in the middle.

This is a winner of a pattern!

clear instructions - great diagrams - multiple options
