When I worked in television in film production, I specialized in historic hair and makeup design. By proxy, this meant I needed to dive deep into the history of trends, and what made them.
What we know and identify as symbols of an era most times developed out of pure utilitarianism - adapting to the environment we were put in - and was embellished by what resources we had access to.
