Frosted Leaves Shawl Knitting Pattern

How It’s Worked

A semi-circular shawl using the Pi construction pioneered by Elizabeth Zimmermann where the number of stitches in doubled after each section is worked. All the stitch patterns used in this shawl are based on leaves and are from the Estonian style of knitting.

Inspiration

When I was working on this design, I was imagining walking through my garden looking at leaves covered with overnight frost. The pattern contains nupps which are not to everyone’s taste. If you really don’t want to do then, you can replace them with no 6 seed beads placed using the crochet hook method or leave them out completely. This design is perfect for a gradient yarn, or you can knit it in different colors for each section, or just knit it in your favorite color.
