Non-fiction is fun and well-loved by children. They love reading books about animals, the solarr systerm and so much more.

A nonfiction reading and writing unit of study focuses on developing students' skills in reading and analyzing nonfiction texts, as well as writing their own nonfiction pieces. The unit begins with an exploration of different types of nonfiction, such as memoirs, essays, news articles, and scientific reports, and an examination of their features and purposes.

Students then read and analyze a variety of nonfiction texts, using strategies such as annotation, summarizing, and identifying main ideas and supporting details.

In the writing portion of the unit, students are guided through the process of crafting their own nonfiction pieces, such as personal essays, research reports, or argumentative essays. They learn strategies for organizing their ideas, crafting compelling introductions and conclusions, and using evidence to support their claims. The unit will culminate in a final project in which students apply their newfound skills to create a polished nonfiction piece.
