What people are saying

Artboard 1

I used to be a Lonely Planet fan for years. But for my upcoming Patagonia trip, I skipped it due to bad reviews and tried Steve Hänisch’s book instead. And what can I say? I’m positively surprised :) Honestly, for trip preparation this book is way more useful than LP. It feels so much more personal and really has everything you need — it’s even both a travel and trekking guide in one. Five stars, well deserved!

With all the overwhelming information online, Steve’s book gave me a practical and guiding introduction to my three-month journey. Really, really great tips, routes, and information — highly recommended for preparing your trip to Chile!

Since the author personally describes most of the places and treks from his own experience, this guide feels very authentic. Especially for anyone interested in trekking, this book is an invaluable help.

I felt well-prepared for Patagonia. It’s often hard to make the right choices with so many options, but Steve’s priorities for each place worked perfectly for us. Hikes, excursions, and accommodations were exactly as described. And the structure makes it very easy to find the information needed! Highly recommended 👍😀

About the Author

I’m Steve from Hamburg, and over the past 14 years I’ve spent several months traveling through Chile during multiple South America trips. Along the way, I’ve not only explored the famous highlights but also plenty of lesser-known places – especially during my journeys along the Carretera Austral, which I’ve hitchhiked in full three times.

For the past 10 years, I’ve been producing travel documentaries for TV and YouTube and writing guidebooks for independent travelers. Altogether, I’ve completed four major South America trips. In my books, I share first-hand tips and honest experiences I’ve gathered along the way – from one traveler to another.

This guide is designed to help you plan your Chile adventure with confidence and make the most of your time on the ground.
