Lace Illusion Pullover is a top-down sweater featuring a stranded colorwork design that creates the illusion of a delicate lace top layered over a solid-color long-sleeve garment. The contrast between the colors highlights the lace-like motif while maintaining the warmth and structure of a classic pullover. Worked seamlessly from the top down, enjoyable, rhythmic knit.

Materials

Any kind of fingering weight yarn, 400m/100g, 440yds/3.5oz, merino or merino blend,

2 colors – Main Color (MC) – maroon on sample, Contrast Color (CC) – light on sample

This pattern is made of Raggz Fiberart Marooned 41425 colorway as MC and Kathy’s Obsession 12025 colorway as CC. Both are Punta high twist sock yarn, 80% SW merino, 20% nylon, 100g/400m, 3.5oz/437yds

Sample is a size 4.

Gauge

28 sts x 36 rows = 4” x 4“/ 10 x 10 cm in stockinette, with US 2 ½ / 3mm knitting needles

Swatch both plain stockinette and colorwork, as you might need to change needle sizes to maintain the gauge. Block your swatch the same way you plan to block your pullover and let it fully dry before measuring the gauge.

Techniques used

Knitting in the round, short rows, trapping floats in stranded knitting, lifted increases, stretch bind-off.
