Fire Door Inspection App
If your block of flats is over 11 metres, the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 say communal fire doors must be checked at least every 3 months, and flat entrance doors at least every 12 months on a best-endeavours basis, with a record of every time you could not get in. Fire Door Inspection keeps that record on your phone, tablet or laptop, works out when each door is next due, tracks every defect until it is fixed, and shows on a dashboard whether your doors are really in date.
For residents' management companies, right-to-manage companies, small managing agents, caretakers and landlords who do their own routine fire door checks. Not for you if you are a professional fire door inspector who needs certificates and branded reports, if you need several people's checks synced in real time, or if you need an app on iPhone or iPad.

Works offline in any desktop browser (Windows, Mac, Chromebook) and on Android. iPhone and iPad are not supported yet.
What it does for you
- The 10 checks from the GOV.UK fire door guidance, each with a short "what to look for" note: door and frame, letterbox, glazing, hinges and locks, gaps, seals, the self-closer, alterations, wedged open and other damage
- Big OK, Defect and N/A buttons for use on the landing, plus Mark the rest OK
- Each defect gets a description, Routine or Urgent priority and a fix-by date; one photo per inspection, shrunk to save space
- Access not granted: record flat entrance door visits where you could not get in, with a note of what you did next, as regulation 10 asks
- Check intervals by door type: 3 months for communal doors, 12 months for flat entrance doors and 6 months for other fire doors by default; you can change them
- Today screen: overdue doors, open and urgent defects, doors due soon and doors never inspected, with a Needs attention list
- Action plan: every open defect with its fix-by date; Mark fixed records when, who and what was done
- Door register for several buildings: reference, floor, location, type and fire rating (e.g. FD30S)
- History filtered by period, building or inspector; open, edit, print or delete any inspection
- NEW in v5: Dashboard with doors in date, inspections in 12 months, first-time pass rate and average days to fix, plus charts of inspections per month (pass, defects found, no access), door status today, defects by check and doors in date by building. Every chart has a text version for screen readers
- NEW in v5: Calendar file (.ics) with each door's next due date, grouped by building and day, and the fix-by dates of open defects, for Google Calendar, Outlook or Apple Calendar
- NEW in v5: Full keyboard use, screen-reader labels, a skip link and high-contrast colours (tested against WCAG 2.2 AA with axe)
- Printable A4 inspection record with signature lines, printable action plan and door register; CSV export of doors, action plan and history for Excel or Google Sheets; JSON backup and restore
- Inspections are refused if a check is missed, a defect has no description, the date is in the future or the fix-by date is before the inspection
- Demo data (a residents' management company with two buildings, 20 doors and a year of inspections) to try it first
How it works (3 steps)
- Open the app, try the demo, then press Use my data. In Setup add your organisation, buildings and inspectors; in Doors add each fire door with its reference, floor and type (about 10 minutes for a typical block)
- Walk the building with your phone or tablet: open Inspect, pick the door and inspector, tap OK, Defect or N/A for each of the 10 checks, then Save inspection. For a flat you cannot get into, tick Access not granted and add a note
- Use the Action plan to get defects fixed and mark them fixed, watch Today for overdue doors, and use the dashboard and calendar file to keep every door in date
What's included
- Fire-Door-Inspection.html: the app. One file, opens in your web browser, works offline
- Start-here.pdf: quick-start guide with the 3-step plan and backup tips
- Demo data built in (two buildings, 20 doors, a year of inspections), so you can try everything first
Compatibility
- Tested in Google Chrome on a desktop (1440 px wide) and on Android phone sizes (390 px and 360 px wide)
- Also runs in current Edge and Firefox, and Safari on Mac
- Not iPhone or iPad yet: Safari on iOS cannot keep the app data from a downloaded file reliably, so we do not support it
- One self-contained file: no installation, no account, no subscription, nothing is sent over the internet

Good to know
- Records are saved in the browser on the device you use. Each device keeps its own records, so use one phone or tablet for the rounds and download a backup (JSON) after each round
- The 3 and 12 month checks are a legal duty for blocks over 11 metres in England; for lower blocks they are good practice. Your fire risk assessment may ask for something different: follow it
- Repairs to fire doors should be done by a competent person; the app records them, it does not judge them
- Business licence: use it within one organisation on as many devices as you like
- FAQ: Does it replace a fire risk assessment or a professional fire door survey? No. It records the routine checks the GOV.UK guidance describes. Your fire risk assessor decides whether the doors are suitable.
- FAQ: Can two caretakers use it on their own phones? Not with shared records. Each device keeps its own. Use one shared tablet, or send a backup file from one device to the other.
- FAQ: Does it work in Wales or Scotland? The checks are useful anywhere, but the 3 and 12 month intervals come from the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022. Set your own intervals in Setup.
