Installment 68 of Finding the Names, Volume One — The Ship Manifests. Transcribed by hand from the National Archives' own scans of the original New Orleans inward manifests: Record Group 36, Microfilm Publication M1895, Roll 8 ("Inward Manifests, 1837–1841," NAID 173898130), images 721–840.

899 entries (891 named, 8 unnamed) on 65 manifests, dated December 1839 to May 1841.

Inside: Elisha Talbott, 18, shipped under a term-service oath, whose manifest is endorsed "Died — Mustered at Balize, March 8th 1841"; Emanuel Coyle, marked with the inspector's single word "dead"; Maria and Margaret, struck off the barque Mary — "not shipped by this vessel"; the brig Creole's 152 numbered entries that are really 155 people; the Bostonian's table of 35 against her certificate's "63 in number"; the brig Orleans's one enormous composite manifest — fourteen shippers on a single long sheet; the Gladiator's 82 from St. Marks; and Moses and Drayton, landed before New Orleans and never inspected there.

Contents: the book (241 pages, PDF, large print) — About, art by an enslaved creator, the manifests voyage by voyage, the unnamed, an alphabetical name index with image numbers, and honest notes on gaps and disagreements.
