It was a sunny Saturday afternoon when Jenna decided it was the perfect time to play a prank on her boyfriend Mark. The couple had been dating for a few months and both shared a quirky sense of humor.
Jenna had recently downloaded a new smartphone app called Shrink Me. It promised to let users shrink down to tiny size. She knew it was just a cleverly designed filter and not actually real... or was it? In any case, Jenna thought it would be hilarious to shrink Mark down super small and hide him in her room. Then when he was restored to normal size, she'd surprise him and laugh about it together.
Since Mark was a big, heavyset guy, it took several tries for the app to focus properly on his body and finally work its magic. In an instant, Mark was reduced down to the size of an ant! He let out a shocked yelp as the world suddenly became a giant, frightening place. Jenna couldn't help but giggle at the sight of her miniaturized boyfriend scurrying around on the carpet.
"Dude, you're so small! This is priceless! You're like a little bug!" Jenna cackled. She scooped Mark up in her palm and examined his terrified tiny face. His mouth moved rapidly, but his voice was inaudible.
Against her better judgment, Jenna decided to set Mark down on the hardwood floor. She had to run to the bathroom really quick and didn't want to keep him confined in her hand. "I'll be right back babe, just stay put!" She said before hurrying off.
Mark was in a panic, his tiny bare feet pattering against the smooth wooden planks. He had to get off this exposed floor! But where could a person his size possibly hide? His hamster-sized brain raced as he scurried along, realizing Jenna's room was a vast void offering no shelter to someone of his current stature.
Suddenly, he heard the sound of footsteps approaching. Thud, thud, thud. Heavy, measured steps. Mark gulped. Those sounded like Jenna's mom Carole's footsteps - she had a distinctive gait. And if he wasn't mistaken, the thuds were getting louder...
"Jenna honey, are you home?" Carole's voice called out. Mark froze in terror, realizing the floorboards were vibrating with each impact of her shoe against the hardwood! He was right out in the open! There was nowhere to go!
Jenna emerged from the bathroom. "I'm in my room Mom, come on in!"
Thud, thud, thud. Carole's footsteps grew closer and closer... Mark squeezed his eyes shut, not daring to look. Every step shook the ground. Closer and closer and CLOSER-AAAARGH!!!
The tiny man let out an inhuman screech as the hard edge of a wooden clog sole came crashing down on top of him. BLAM! It flattened him like a pancake, reducing the once 300 pound man to a gurgling stain on the floorboards.
"Ugh, what was that?" Carole remarked. She glanced down at the dark smear under her shoe. "Must be a squished bug. These old clogs always seem to pick up something."
"Weird," Jenna replied, craning her neck. She didn't notice her microscopic boyfriend's remains. "Hey Mom, you've got kindof a big dark spot on the bottom of your shoe there. You might wanna clean that off."
"Oh, thanks for pointing it out sweetie." Carole turned and headed back out of the room. "This apartment is just so dusty. I really need to do a deep clean in here..."
After her mom left, Jenna looked around. "Babe? Mark?" She knew he was probably still tiny and hiding somewhere. She examined her shoes to make sure she wouldn't step on him. Then she glanced at the floor.
Her eyes widened in horror as she took in the scene before her. The glistening smear. The tiny hand, flattened and still. "No...no nononono...what did I do?!" Jenna wailed. Tears sprang to her eyes as the reality sunk in. She'd murdered her boyfriend. By accident. Because she was stupid enough to set him loose on the floor.
Panicked, Jenna grabbed some tissues and furiously rubbed at the dark patch, trying to wipe up any trace of the crime. She couldn't let her mom find out! This was bad. Real bad. What was she going to do...
After composing herself, Jenna made up an excuse about needing to take a trip and fled the apartment. She never came back and was never seen or heard from again.
Some say on quiet nights, if you put your ear to the floorboards, you can still hear a tiny voice screeching...
