Faith, Strength, and Hope for the Single Mom

A Single Mom’s Companion

Introduction: When You Have to Be Strong for Everyone

There are moments in a mother’s life when she quietly asks herself:

“How am I going to do all of this on my own?”

Not because she doesn't love her children.

Not because she wants to give up.

But because there are days when the weight of providing, parenting, protecting, working, healing, and holding a family together feels like more than one person should have to carry.

I know that question.

I have lived it.

In 2021, my life changed when I made the difficult decision to leave my marriage after experiencing infidelity and realizing that the future I hoped to build as a family was no longer the future I could see for myself and my children.

I knew leaving would be difficult.

What I did not fully understand was how much I would have to carry afterward.

Suddenly, the everyday responsibilities of raising my children rested heavily on my shoulders—taking them to school, attending meetings, arranging counseling, supporting them emotionally, guiding their personal growth, managing finances, and making decisions that affected their future.

And I was doing it thousands of miles away from the family I grew up with.

I am from the Philippines, but I live in Cape Town, South Africa. My parents and extended family were not here to step in when I was exhausted or overwhelmed. There was no familiar support system waiting nearby.

There was simply me, my children, my responsibilities, and my faith.

And somehow, every morning, I got up and kept going.

Not because it was easy.

Because my children were counting on me.

They became my reason to keep moving forward.

When I didn't know how I would manage financially, I worked. When opportunities came, I took them. I began building my spa business, continued writing digital content, trained people in massage, and took on additional work when necessary.

Some days were about building a business.

Some days were simply about putting food on the table.

But every day was about my children.

And every morning, before we faced the demands of another day, we prayed.

I learned to bring my questions, fears, exhaustion, and hopes to God.

Because there were things I could not fix.

There were circumstances I could not control.

There were burdens I could not carry forever.

But I could pray.

I could keep showing up.

I could love my children.

And I could choose to build a home where they felt safe, valued, guided, and loved.

That became my mission.

Not to give my children a perfect life, but to give them a life filled with love, respect, stability, faith, and hope.

That is where this book begins.

Not with a perfect mother.

Not with a perfect family.

But with a woman who found herself in a difficult chapter and decided that the chapter would not be the end of her story.

This book is for the mother who has wondered how she will make it through another day.

For the mother who works while everyone else sleeps.

For the mother who smiles for her children while carrying private worries in her heart.

For the mother who has had to become stronger than she ever expected to be.

And for the mother who loves her children deeply but sometimes wonders who is taking care of her.

I wrote Empowered because I know what it feels like to carry the responsibility of motherhood while trying to rebuild your own life.

I also know that strength does not always look like confidence.

Sometimes strength looks like getting out of bed when you are exhausted.

Sometimes it looks like making another meal, going to work, attending another school meeting, having another difficult conversation, or praying another prayer when you are still waiting for an answer.

Sometimes strength is simply refusing to give up.

My journey as a single mother has taught me that faith does not mean we will never struggle.

It means that even in the struggle, we can choose to keep moving forward.

And sometimes, when we feel that we are carrying everything alone, God meets us in the middle of what we cannot handle and gives us enough grace for the next step.

This is not a book about having it all together.

It is about learning how to keep going while putting the pieces together.

It is about faith when the future is unclear.

It is about strength when you are tired.

It is about hope when life has not gone according to plan.

And it is about remembering that the woman behind the role of “Mom” deserves care, healing, purpose, and a future of her own.

If you are holding this book in your hands today, perhaps you are in a season of rebuilding too.

If so, I want you to begin here:

You don't have to know how the whole story ends.

You only need enough faith to take the next step.

Welcome to Empowered.

This is my story.

Perhaps, in some way, it will remind you of yours.
