About Me

Donn King is an author, speaker, retired associate professor of communication studies, and a pastor in the United Methodist Church. As a writer and communication coach, he has dedicated over four decades to helping people communicate effectively in personal and professional settings.

Donn is the author of The Sparklight Chronicles, a series of business parables designed to help readers align their lives with their values. The first book in the series, The Way of the Three-Year-Old Why, received high praise from Bob Burg, co-author of The Go-Giver: “Timeless wisdom on many levels, wrapped within an absolutely beautifully-told story!” The second book, Medium Well: The Journey from Believing to Believing In, continues this journey of insightful storytelling. In addition to his parables, Donn has written The Right-brained Guide to Parliamentary Procedure: A Path Through the Forest and co-authored Responsibly Spoken, a public speaking textbook. His work spans articles in newspapers, magazines, and blogs, and he has shared his expertise as a guest on podcasts such as Write Your Book in a Flash with Dan Janal and The Be Better Broadcast with Brandon Eastman.

Donn is a Distinguished Toastmaster and a proud member of The Go-Giver Success Alliance. He has spoken to diverse audiences across the United States, from churches to business conferences, and is recognized for his engaging presentations and innovative use of Zoom for professional communication. His contributions to education and communication earned him the Excellence Award and Innovation Award from the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development.

Donn and his wife, Janet, reside on the quiet side of the Great Smoky Mountains, where he writes and teaches, while Janet creates beautiful works from yarn. Together, they enjoy the best coffee in Tennessee and cherish life with their family, including five children, three grown and independent, one who is complicated, and one who lives on in their hearts.
