More Date Doc Adventures — Four Dates, Four Personal Ads
Ten years. Four hundred first dates. Somebody should write this down.
In Boston I was the Dyke Date Doctor — I ran the workshops, hosted a stage show called The Lesbian Dating Game, set up half my friends, and dated my way through the research so you don't have to.
This is a small pile of the evidence.
Four dates that actually happened:
- The mini golf date that went perfectly until I panicked and hustled her out of my house
- The night I inhaled coconut soup in front of a full restaurant, took a bow, and still got the girl
- The picnic on Boston Common that ended with the best sentence anyone's ever said to me
- The pool date that came back a month later in the form of somebody's furious girlfriend
Four personal ads, exactly as they ran — including the zombie apocalypse ad, my dating résumé, and a recipe for cuddling — each with a note from me on what worked, what I'd rewrite now, and why.
Every date ends with the Doc's note: the actual lesson, stated plainly.
