CHAPTER ONE: MAMA AFRIKA

Once upon a time, a time before the birth of the UNIVERSE, there was AYE GBANGBA- the birth place of NANA BULUKU. Bu ilu ku means “take some of the land and leave the rest”.

She was the Mother Supreme Creator of the Universe, and at the prime of her ascension to a higher plane, she performed four last great feats.

Firstly, she conjured a raft made of mystic mud and she named her AFRIKA. By doing so, she established her new point of apogee.

“Oh! Afrika, the cradle of life, I command thee to manifest thy form”

For her second wonder before the slumber, she breathes out LISA, the Sun personified.

Thirdly, she exhaled MAU, the light of the night.

The fourth miracle was of the art and crafty type.

She began to chant a sonorous song.

“Murubanide , Komono kan kundiyaaaa! Ku! Hmmm, Hmmm! Afrika! Tini fini mi Mama, Mama Ye Mama Ye Oh! Afrika Tini fini mi Mama Ye! Eh oh oh! Tini fini Mama Afrika! Mama Ye oh!”

She continued to sculpt ambidextrously whilst chanting the enchanting hymn.

“From this day forth, I shall be called “Mama Afrika”, mother of the cradle of civilization. This last feat shall bear me witness”

Four forms appear to be taking shape as she moulds with precision and cunning. Nana was an exceptional artist and craft woman with exquisite taste for premium quality.

And there they stood, four beautiful golems but yet lifeless.

“I breathe my mist of life into these four orisas sculpted from the mystic mud called Afrika! These are my last creations and so they must live! Ase! Tini fini mi Mama Afrika…Mama Ye Oh!
