Daughter of Amun, Son of Montu: A Graphic Novel
he hid behind a pillar to learn how her father ruled. He was born invisible, and ordered her name chiselled from every stone.
Thebes, around 1479 BC. A girl watches the throne hall from the shadows and learns that power is not only how one stands, but how one lets others fall. She grows into the Regent of Egypt, then takes the striped nemes, the false bronze beard and the name Maatkare, and becomes King of the Two Lands. Beside her grows the boy who should have been king: Thutmose III, kept as co-ruler and treated as a flaw in the geometry. He becomes a soldier, wins Megiddo and builds an empire, and swears that one day he will erase her name from every monument.
In the end, with the dust of her cartouches still on his hands, an old king has to decide what his son will be allowed to remember.
A story of stone and ink and the violence of forgetting, adapted by the author from his novel of Hatshepsut and Thutmose III.
