Reflections of a Ruby Pendant
Holly Ferguson wants nothing more than sun, sea, and freedom. Fresh out of university and desperate to slip her overbearing parents' grip, she delays her carefully mapped-out future to enjoy three months of paradise in the Bahamas, where a charming local named Mateo is all too happy to show her around the islands.
Mateo, a diver, offers Holly a gift: a golden pendant set with a single, glowing ruby, pulled from beneath the waves along a lonely stretch of coast. The moment she wears it to sleep, she is no longer herself. Night after night, she awakes aboard a pirate ship centuries in the past, trapped in the body of a captive girl who's at the mercy of the fearsome Blackbeard.
An old island woman, Mula, warns her the pendant is steeped in ancient magic that is powerful, patient, and hungry, and it's not to be trifled with. But Holly can't stop. She has to know how the story ends. With the help of Mateo and Mula, she continues her investigation, falling deeper under the control of the dark magic.
Eventually, she has to decide whether to part with the ruby pendant or follow it to an unknown end.
