5 months ago I wrote a promissory note to HMRC for £10,000 for outstanding tax bill. This bill is over 5 years old and they normally send me reminders once a month for this.

Since I wrote it I haven't received a single demand for payment.

They haven't formally accepted it, yet they also haven't disputed it, nor have they sent a single letter in chasing it. Someone told me they can still come after you years later, which may be true, but they were after me anyway and have now stopped. If they were going to come after me in years to come why wouldn't they continue doing so now.

The only correspondence I have had from them, is for this years outstanding tax return, which was after I sent the promissory note, so I will send them another one and update you on that one too.

I am putting it here in case anyone else wants to try. I'd love to know how you get on if you do try.

I've taken out the bits that are relevant to me that you will have to fill in to make it yours. I've priced it low so anyone can afford it.
