In A Biblical Understanding of the Blood of Christ, Michael E.B. Maher explains the necessity and power of Jesus’ shed blood for the forgiveness of sins. He begins by affirming humanity’s universal sinfulness and God’s absolute righteousness and justice, which demand that every sin be accounted for. Because God cannot simply overlook sin, a perfect, sinless sacrifice was required.
Maher shows that Jesus—the only sinless man—bore the sins of the world in His body, died physically and spiritually, and suffered God’s wrath in hell for three days. His pure, uncontaminated blood was then presented in heaven’s Most Holy Place as the eternal atonement for sin. Only through faith in Christ and confession of sin can a person be washed in His blood and receive forgiveness.
The course warns against false teachings that downplay the blood or claim God forgives without sacrifice. It also distinguishes between believers, who are cleansed from their sins, and unbelievers, who die in their sins and face judgment. Ultimately, Maher emphasizes that forgiveness is found solely in the precious blood of Jesus.
