From 2000 to 2003, the local H.P. Lovecraft's Friends Group met monthly for a Sunday lunch, followed by field trips, film viewings or graveyard hikes in Lovecraft's native Providence. This 11x17 newsletter, presented here in full color, documented these events and the Lovecraft celebrants. Published for the group by The Poet's Press, the newsletter was jokingly titled "The Cthulhu Prayer Society Newsletter." Articles in this 65-page collection cover a trip to the Lizzie Borden murder house in Fall River; the story of Poe and Mrs. Whitman; how to find Lovecraft's favorite haunts in Lincoln Woods (maps included); a visit to Cambridge's Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Additional topic covered include lost civilizations, giant squids, and the history of Gorgons. Although much is tongue-in-cheek, this newsletter helps document Lovecraft events in Providence during some years before H.P. Lovecraft became acceptable and appreciated in his home town.
