The Shetland Explorer scarf was designed by Diane Duke in RiverKnits Northampton Shear Shetland lace yarn. Diane has been knitting since the age of four and over the years has knit in many different styles and yarn types, but loves natural fibres most of all. When visiting Shetland in 2021, she took the opportunity to learn more about Shetland lace and its traditions, meeting local artisans and examining pieces of work old and new. The stitch patterns chosen for the scarf explore some of the most popular ones used – hence the name Shetland Explorer!

It takes just two skeins of Northampton Shear Shetland Lace to make this very lightweight scarf. You will barely feel it on you, but you will feel its warmth!
