Level: Suitable for B2 or C1 learners.
Length: 1.5 to 2 hours.
Aims: To enable learners to develop strategies and vocabulary for talking about and handling everyday mistakes, and to introduce learners to the distinction between a mistake and an error in language learning.
Target Skills and Language: Vocabulary relating to mistakes, vocabulary for handling a mistake (e.g. own up, cover it up, shift the blame etc.), telling personal anecdotes, group brainstorming, developing strategies for handling language mistakes, and matching definitions and examples of errors (e.g. spoonerisms and eggcorns).
A note on activity 4C: The matching activity involves pairing up definitions of named categories of language mistakes with examples of language in those categories.
