Dividend Number - launch kit
You've seen the formula everywhere. This gives you your actual number.
There's a simple bit of maths doing the rounds: the income you want, times 100 divided by the dividend yield. It tells you how much capital it takes to live off dividends, and the answer surprises almost everyone. Dividend Number turns that one line of maths into a proper little tool. It's a single file that lives on your computer. Download it, double click it, and it works forever, wifi or not.
Here's what's inside.
Quick calculator. Type the income you want and a yield, and the capital figure updates as you type. There's a tax switch too, because the number everyone quotes is the before tax one, and that gap is bigger than you think. Fifty grand a year at a 2.85% yield is about $1.75 million before tax. Flick the switch at a 15% dividend tax and it quietly becomes about $2.06 million.
Comparison table. Six yields side by side out of the box, from a chunky 6.85% payer down to a 0.73% grower. Rename the rows to your own shortlist, add more, delete what you don't care about. The cheapest and priciest paths to the same income are totalled at the bottom.
Inverse planner. Flip the question. Put in what you've got, what you add each month and a growth rate, and it maps out year by year when your dividend income crosses your target. It shows the figures in today's dollars too, so inflation doesn't flatter the answer.
Learn tab. The whole idea in plain words, a simple drawing of why the highest yield isn't automatically the winner, and one honest card about what this method can't tell you.
And the best part: it writes your spreadsheet formulas for you. Every calculation generates the exact Excel and Google Sheets formula with your numbers already plugged in. One copy button and it's in your sheet. The comparison table pastes over with live formulas in every row, so it keeps working inside your spreadsheet.
Use it for retirement targets, your FIRE number, SMSF income planning, or just settling the how much would I actually need conversation with real numbers.
Why a file and not a website? Because you own it. It works offline on a plane, at the beach, in ten years. Nothing you type ever leaves the file. No account, no tracking, no subscription quietly renewing in the background. You buy it once and it's yours.
How it works:
- Buy it and download the zip from your receipt.
- Unzip it and double click the file. It opens in your normal browser.
- Type your numbers. That's it.
Instant download. Yours for life.
