Religion has told us that forgiveness is necessary for salvation but the religious version of "forgiveness" is another appropriation that is misconstrued, misleading, and, through ignorance, limits our access to greater dimensions of transformation. To better understand "salvation" we must understand principles like, "Love your neighbor as yourself", and "Do not judge so you are not judged", and "Be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect", and "As he is, so are we in this world".

If and when we truly understand these ancient teachings we will also understand that we can only receive what we give; for better or worse. So, "salvation" and "forgiveness" do not come from any source outside of ourselves since, "... the kingdom of God is within...".

Is it ok to take a book written by ancient people, composed of ancient context and intention, and interpret that book through another cultures' politicized worldview? If we care to understand the book in the way it was meant to be understood, it is inappropriate to interpret it according to our cultural biases and prejudices. To do so would be appropriation rather than honest scholarship. Yet, this is exactly what the western world has done with the Bible. We have taken these books from ancient cultures and attempted to apply their teachings in ways that were not originally intended. Most people do not understand how subtle and, yet, problematic this issue is. It is difficult to recognize our cultural distortions because they have been handed down to us. Logic is not always wisdom.
