In this Bat in a Forest Art Lesson, students learn a variety of processes to create a bat art piece using oil pastels and paint. It is a good fit when students are learning about bats in science, or as a Halloween project.

Every step comes with a picture and a written description on its own page, plus a Step-By-Step Draw: Bat handout, so students can follow along and create the piece successfully. The lesson is an original idea by Ms Artastic.

WHAT TEACHERS ARE SAYING

★★★★★ “I hope to use this art activity when my students learn about bats.I liked that you included the lesson plans and visual and text step by step instructions. I feel confident that my students will be able to follow instructions and do the project.” Doraelia B.

HOW TO USE IT

Read the lesson plan to see the steps and gather the materials in advance. Look over the step-by-step pages, and you may want to make a sample yourself so you are ready to help students. Photocopy the student handouts, such as the step-by-step draw and rubric.

Print the poster sample in color and show it before the lesson as your hook. Then show the PDF on a projector or under a document camera, or use it as your guide while you demonstrate. Because every step has both a visual and a text description, students can follow along without confusion.
