WHAT TEACHERS ARE SAYING
★★★★★ “My students loved mixing the secondary colors. They also loved painting the background. I showed them various ways to draw flower petals, and they designed their own petals. The finished pictures were fabulous.” Cassandra Leigh, TPT review

This Color Wheel Flower Art Lesson is a Grade 1 art project that teaches the element of art: color. Students create a bright Color Wheel Flower artwork while learning how artists mix red, yellow and blue to make orange, green and purple.
Along the way, students paint, draw, cut, glue, practice pattern, read about color, and reflect on their work. It comes as a non-editable PDF with a PowerPoint slideshow and a bonus support video demonstration link, and suits art teachers, classroom teachers, homeschool families and sub plans.

WHAT STUDENTS LEARN
Students explore the color wheel, primary colors, secondary colors and color mixing, and talk about how artists use color to show ideas, feelings, mood and visual interest. They read about color, look at the color wheel, practice mixing, paint their petals and reflect on their choices, so the concept gets more than a quick mention.
The project also builds painting, drawing, color vocabulary, fine motor practice, reading comprehension, spelling, writing and creative thinking. Teach it with the printable pages, the PowerPoint slideshow or the video demonstration, depending on how you like to teach.
