IGCSE Extended Booklet 31 Part 1 - Pythagoras | Original 11-page PDF
My original 11-page teaching booklet, supplied as an unchanged PDF. Pythagoras with algebra, chords, circles, coordinates, three-dimensional problems and a slipping ladder.
The original questions, numbering, diagrams and page layout are preserved. This historical edition contains teaching notes, practice questions and selected answers. It is not a complete worked-solutions pack. Use the linked lesson description to see which questions that particular recording covers. This is the exact 11-page Pythagoras-only edition for Part 1, not the different 45-page full trigonometry booklet.
A separate one-page clarification PDF is included. Page 4 - Question 2(c): The algebra gives x = 2 or x = 4/11. Only x = 2 is a valid triangle: x = 4/11 makes the labelled hypotenuse 4x − 3 negative. Reject that root when interpreting the diagram. Page 11 - Question 14 recording: The diagram uses metres. The non-degenerate solution is x = 4 m, giving L² = 425 m² and ladder length L = √425 m ≈ 20.6 m. The recording’s final boxed L² = √425 and cm are notation and unit slips; the algebraic value is unchanged.
