Bodhi tree

The tree under which Buddha attained enlightenment is known as the Bodhi Tree. It is a large and ancient sacred fig tree (Ficus religiosa) located in Bodh Gaya, India. Under this tree, Siddhartha Gautama, who later became known as the Buddha, meditated for 49 days and achieved enlightenment, which marks the founding of Buddhism. The site of the Bodhi Tree is one of the most important pilgrimage sites for Buddhists.
