Autumn Leaf Line Art Lesson Fall Leaf Art Project Activity Reading Writing Art
This Autumn Leaf Line Art Lesson is a fall art project for 1st to 4th grade. Students create a striking autumn leaf line artwork while exploring line, pattern, repetition and creative expression, learning how different lines and repeated marks can fill a space and change the look and feeling of an artwork.
The tutorial comes in both PDF and PowerPoint formats, so you can project the steps, click through the slides, demonstrate it yourself or let students follow the visuals. It also includes reading comprehension, writing prompts, reflection pages, a rubric, bulletin board display pieces and extension activities for art teachers, classroom teachers, homeschool families and sub plans.
WHAT TEACHERS ARE SAYING
★★★★ “I loved the science connection: photosynthesis, chlorophyll, the effects of fewer hours of sunlight, and the natural pigmentation of the leaves. This project uses materials that are easy to find in the classroom. Paper, permanent markers, water based markers, a cup of water, and a paintbrush. There are step-by-step slides that can be projected during the lesson. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. Students explore different types of lines. The best part was when my students painted over the marker with water and said, "This is science!"” Cassandra L.

WHAT STUDENTS LEARN
Students explore line, pattern, repetition and rhythm in a way that still feels playful at this age. They see how lines can show texture, movement and feeling, and how color and line work together to make an artwork exciting to look at.
Use the art lesson on its own, or extend it with the reading passage, comprehension questions, opinion writing, compare and contrast work, reflections and artist statement. It fits fall art lessons, autumn bulletin boards, literacy-integrated art, homeschool art and sub plans.
