Tape Rack 2.0 - Ableton Live Effects Rack Device
TAPE RACK 2.0 is an Ableton Live fx rack that brings the sound design possibilities of cassette tape to your productions. Rebuilt from the ground up using Ableton Live's finest new devices, version 2.0 delivers deeper, more controllable pitch modulation, improved overdrive tone, and an added low pass filter. With 7 included presets, you can explore everything from subtle smear to extreme degradation right from the jump.
Smear your keys. Wooz your pads. Age your vocals. Crush your drums.

Born from years of hands-on experience with tape machines — from high fidelity Tascams to barely functioning portables — Tape Rack 2.0 channels that knowledge into a powerful, tactile tool. While no digital device will ever fully recreate the magic of tape, this FX rack gives you an authentic window into that world, from simple and subtle to unrealistically unhinged.
Tape Rack 2.0 is available two ways:
- Tape Rack 2.0 alone — FREE
- Tape Rack 2.0 with three tone color devices — $5
- 424 Color — inspired by the mixer tone of the Tascam 424 mkI
- 414 Color — inspired by the mixer tone of the Tascam 414 mkII
- Walkman Color — inspired by a variety of gritty, grungy, decaying portable tape machines

Flexible by design, the tone color devices work before Tape Rack, after it, or as a standalone mix tool in any context.
Tape Rack 2.0 requires Ableton Live Suite 12.3.5 or newer.
Tape Rack 2.0 will introduce up to 19 milliseconds of latency on the track it is affecting. This is an inherent byproduct of the delay-based pitch modulation, which produces the most natural-sounding results. While this is often not noticeable, it can be fixed using delay compensation or by adjusting the placement of the audio or midi region. Or, you might dig it. I usually do.
