“… to fear the Moon, to feed her as she must be fed, and never to look upon her feeding...”— Druidic triad, quoted by Posidonius
Beneath the black moors of the Derbyshire Peak District, in the village of Moonwell, an unspeakable horror has lain, imprisoned by ancient rites, for millennia. But the arrival of well-meaning Christian evangelists, led by charismatic zealot Godwin Mann, frees the creature – and it draws its attention to the nearby nuclear missile base…
But someone else has found themselves compelled to come to Moonwell – anti-nuclear activist Diana Cheung. Intent on founding a peace camp to protest the missiles, as Godwin Mann’s religious fanaticism infects the populace, Diana and a handful of others – villagers and protestors alike – find themselves persecuted as heretics. And then, an unnatural, all pervading dark descends on Moonwell – a pitch black night that threatens to be a precursor to Armageddon itself…
WHAT THE REVIEWERS ARE SAYING:
“A project steeped in British folk horror DNA, and one that feels especially timely... A slow, oppressive descent into darkness. Not just cosmic horror, but social horror too. Faith turned fanatical. Protestors labelled heretics. A community devouring itself under a moon that demands to be fed. It is, in other words, very much our sort of thing… Immersive, measured, and unsettling in exactly the right ways.” – Folk’n’Hell (READ FULL BLOG HERE)
“Bags of spooky charm… an impressively immersive production… steeped in a doomy, rain-soaked atmosphere. And, while it’s not shy of trading in a few well-worn folk horror tropes, there are engaging characters and some neat subversions of the genre along the way.” – SFX Magazine
“A strong cast with a stand-out performance from Jemma Moore, high production values, an atmospheric score from Brent Holland and above all a beautifully paced and accomplished script from Ian Winterton which builds to a scary and exciting finale. It’s a bargain. Don’t hesitate!” – Stephen Wyatt, radio writer and two-time winner of the Tinniswood Award for audio drama.
