Air is invisible, yet powerful. It brings the warmth of summer and the chill of winter, and joins with water to form clouds that become rain.

Aridia is my interpretation of air as we see it in the sky: soft clouds and curling motifs captured in stitches.

Aridia is the first shawl in a series I’m imagining around the four elements, a journey through air, water, earth and fire, each interpreted in its own way.

Construction

Aridia is worked from the centre out in a half-pi construction, allowing the cloud-inspired motifs to spread naturally across the fabric. The shawl is finished with a perpendicular border, worked sideways and attached to the live stitches as you go. Its gently undulating edge echoes the soft, rounded shapes of clouds, emphasising the lightness and fluidity of the design

The pattern includes charts, written instructions and video tutorials to guide you through every section of the shawl.
