Emotional trauma is a deep, hidden wound which lingers long after a painful event has passed. It is the silent suffering and hurt we feel inside.

The fear, anxiety, shame, anger or sadness that resurfaces when something or someone triggers a memory or feeling. Many of us walk through life appearing strong on the outside, while silently bleeding within. Trauma can be caused by different experiences such as: abuse, abandonment, betrayal, rejection or even growing up with little or no emotional support. It doesn’t always look dramatic. Sometimes it comes from what was missing. Love that was never given or reciprocated, words that were never said, hugs that were withheld. The Hidden Scars unlike physical wounds, emotional wounds mostly go unnoticed by others. But they shape how we think, how we behave, how we view ourselves, how we view others and the world around us.

Trauma can actually distort our sense of identity. It can leave us feeling unworthy of love, make us feel we are the problem, stuck in cycles of pain or afraid to trust again. We therefore try to push through by suppressing the memories, distracting ourselves with work or with people. But eventually, the buried emotions rise to the surface, sometimes in form of anxiety, depression, anger, isolation or even physical illness.

The beautiful thing about this is: God sees what others cannot see, He is not distant or indifferent to your suffering.
