The aim of every work placement is for the adult to step back. That only happens when the learner can check their own work. These tools move the checking from the job coach to the learner, and the agreement sheet gives you evidence for review meetings.

What you get (12 pages plus an editable Word file)

• A teacher page with set up steps

• A daily work log

• A weekly work checklist: before work, during work and end of the shift (11 items)

• A picture checklist version for learners who need picture support

• An interval self check sheet for "Am I working?" checks with a timer or watch

• A learner and staff agreement sheet with a percentage formula

• Four pocket cards, and an example of a filled in work log

How I use it

I pick 3 to 5 checklist items for each learner, fill in the log with them for the first few shifts, and then have them rate themselves before I do. When our ratings match most of the time for two weeks, I fade my prompts.

How it fits with other tools

This is not a behaviour plan and does not replace staff data sheets. It is a learner facing system for any placement: daily log, weekly checklist, picture version, interval check, agreement sheet and supervisor form.

Who it is for: Job coaches, teaching assistants, work experience leads and teachers supporting learners on placements, supported internships or school jobs at KS4 and post 16.

Licence: one download covers one teacher. Please do not post the file online.
