The Watchman Made Simple
It is the darkest hour of the night, and a man stands alone on a wall of stone. Below him sleeps a city. His hand finds the trumpet at his belt. He does not wait for the danger to knock on the gate. He blows, and the city wakes because one man stayed awake.
The Watchman Made Simple is a Bible-first walk through the watchman's calling: from Ezekiel 33, where God sets the watchman, gives him the trumpet, and holds him accountable for the warning; to Isaiah 62, where God sets watchmen on the walls of Jerusalem who never hold their peace day nor night; to Habakkuk's tower, where the watchman listens for God's voice before he warns; to the night watches of prayer, the guarding of the home after Nehemiah, the waking of the sleeping church, and the final morning watch for the coming of the Lord.
Eleven devotional chapters, each with Scripture, reflection, application, and prayer. Explicitly Trinitarian: the Father who sets the watch and appoints the watchmen, Jesus Christ -- Son of God and Son of Man, Lord and Savior -- the great Shepherd watching over the flock, and the Holy Spirit who opens eyes to see the danger and carries our prayers through the night. Every prayer is to the Father, through Jesus Christ, by the Holy Spirit.
Read one chapter a day. Stay awake. Warn faithfully. Watch for the morning.
