Goat Tractor Front and Rear Wheel Mounting Kit

If you plan to make your goat tractor mobile, our wheel mounting kits are designed specifically for this purpose. The single biggest challenge we faced when developing the goat tractor was mobilizing it. We tried several combinations of off-the-shelf hardware and mounting solutions but none of them gave us the performance we were looking for.

Our rear wheel mounts are designed to carry the heavy loads of the tractor and accept a 16” x 6.50 - 8 wheel/tire combo with a ¾” axle bore. The axle shafts are CNC machined from a strong yet ductile steel alloy, commonly used in high-performance trailer axles. The axles are precision welded and gusseted to mounting plates to increase their strength. A backing plate is utilized to capture the mounting bolts/nuts and distribute load throughout the goat tractor’s frame. The axles are threaded to accept ¾ - 10 lock nuts so tire installation and changes are fast and easy.

The front caster wheel mounts have been designed to navigate rough terrain yet be nimble enough so that the tractor can be turned on a dime by hand. Each caster assembly utilizes two 13” run-flat heavy duty utility cart tires (⅝” axle bore) which help distribute the load of the tractor and make directional changes nearly effortless. The caster assembly features laser-cut weldments that have been optimized through finite element analysis (FEA) for strength and durability. The caster assembly acts as a structural member of the goat tractor frame and distributes loads from pulling/pushing the tractor with the tow bar.   

Each caster assembly features four components. A front mount, rear mount, frame, and wheel mount. The mounts and frame are bolted together while the wheel mount is secured to the frame with a washer and cotter pin.

FAQs

Q: Where are the kits made?

A: The kits are made in America and we source materials, fabrication, and powder coating locally. We believe this is the right approach to manufacturing as it strengthens our local economy and minimizes carbon emissions from transportation.

For the manufacturing of our axle shafts, we have partnered with one of our local high schools and their manufacturing business, Tiger Manufacturing. Through this partnership, we work directly with aspiring students who are interested in machining and manufacturing. Our axle shafts are CNC machined by students and undergo quality inspections that we have developed in partnership with Tiger Manufacturing. This is one of the most rewarding aspects of producing these kits and we are proud to say that a team of students produces our axle shafts from start to finish, all the way through to invoicing.  

Q: Why don’t you include hardware in the kit?

A: All of our kits are designed to use readily available hardware that can be sourced from big box stores, hardware stores, or even online hardware retailers. We don’t believe increasing the costs of our kits to include hardware is a good value proposition for our customers. While included hardware would be convenient for everyone, the costs of this convenience are high since we would be paying to house inventory, pick and pack, and have to increase our shipping costs due to the increased shipping weight the hardware would add to our kits. 

Q: How long will it take to get my kit once I order it?

A: Currently, kits are made to order and have a lead time of 5-6 weeks. We recommend ordering your kit as soon as you purchase the plans so that your kit will be ready when you need it to complete your build and get your goats out on pasture!

Q: Do you ship overseas?
