This cross stitch pattern was based on the designs of Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868-1928), one of the leading decorative arts designers of the Scottish Arts and Crafts movement. He founded the distinctive “Glasgow Style,” characterized by linear simplicity, subtle colors, natural motifs, and organic forms.

The Mackintosh rose motif is probably his most famous and enduring design element. Mackintosh believed roses were “the symbol of all that is noble and beautiful and inspiring.” To him, roses were special and could “change a colorless, cheerless life into an animated thoughtful thing.”

I hope that when you stitch this pattern, this sign will welcome visitors to your colorful, thoughtful and animated household for a long time to come.
