Two Old Men in a Dead City (a short story)
For a number of years, the city of Rockingham (in Australia) has held an annual arts festival. As part of it, they hold a short story contest. The length requirements have varied somewhat, and each year, the city provides a different prompt to spark story ideas.
In 2016, Rockingham provided a picture: two distant figures in a ruin or ruined city. When I looked at it, the image conjured dreams of war, but also of natural destruction, like at Pompeii.
This story is the result. It won third place in the 2016 City of Rockingham Short Fiction contest.
You'll notice that there is no minimum price set for this story.
I'm trying an approach titled "Pay What You Want," because I trust my work. I know my stories are good. I also trust people to recognize that quality and pay what they think the story is worth. Also, I know how hard it is to judge new writers, so I want to make it easy for people to try my work.
