This cosy headband features ribbing for a great fit and cables to keep the knitting interesting. Designed wth handspun yarn in mind, but also a great way to use up any leftovers, the pattern gives instructions for yarn weights from 4-ply to chunky.

Yarn: This pattern can be worked in a range of yarn weights. Approximate requirements.

4-ply 25-30g
DK 30-35g
Aran 30-40g
Chunky 35-45g

Shown in:
Handspun Shetland/Icelandic cross in 4 ply / fingering weight; 100% wool; approx 380 m / 415 yds per 100 g, natural colours.
A Little Bit Sheepish British Bluefaced Leicester Aran weight yarn; 100% wool; 160 m / 175 yds per 100 g, in “Juno”.

Needles: 40 cm / 16” circular needle for working in the round on a medium circumference. Size to suit yarn used.

Notions: Cable needle, tapestry needle, stitch marker.

Skills: Cast on, working in the round, knit, purl, cabling, weaving in ends.

Gauge: In cable rib, lightly stretched, varies with yarn weight. Note the stretch of the ribbing means your gauge does not need to be exact.

Sizing: Pattern gives stitch counts for small (medium, large) adult size, approximately equivalent to 52 (56, 60) cm / 20 ½ (22, 23 ½)” head circumference. You can adjust the sizing further by adding or removing pattern repeat multiples and working more, or fewer repeats of the cable. The ribbing makes this pattern very stretchy, choose a larger size if you are unsure which to go for.
