Catherine is the heroine of Northanger Abbey. Full of imagination and obsessed with gothic novels, this leads to Catherine misinterpreting a lot of situations while in society. First you knit a simple asymmetrical shawl, but there is more to it than meets the eye – just like Catherine. The shawl is turned around and a brioche band is created from picked up stitches. This represents Catherine’s life being turned around and immersing herself in Bath society. A simple lace and eyelet border finish the shawl to show how Catherine gets her simple happy ending with Henry Tilney. Dramatic picots also surround the shawl – for the gothic heroine in all of us.
