Without a doubt, monarchs are the most iconic butterfly in the United States. They are most famous for their annual migration, which takes place each spring and late summer/fall. Some journey as far as 3,000 miles/ 4,828 kilometers to their winter homes in the south!

This children’s pullover design features a stranded colorwork yoke using light fingering or fingering weight yarn. The construction is entirely top down and in round. The third color specks in the butterfly wings of the chart can be worked with three-color stranded colorwork or with duplicate stitch. It can also be omitted by knitting with MC instead, or worked with beads as shown in the pictures.

The monarch motifs represent an attempt to capture these magnificent butterflies in flight, perhaps on their migratory trek across the continent.
