I suggest 4 weight yarn amd either a 4.5 or 5.0 hook, but, you what your prefer

Chaining row does not count as row 1. If row 1 says SC 100. then chain 100+1, turn sc in 2nd chain from hook across to end. at end chain1 and turn. Row 1 is now complete
